With the recent release of ‘Recommendations from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) on the use of a third primary dose of COVID-19 vaccine in individuals who are severely immunocompromised’, staff at Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service (NIHRACS) have been working closely with the Australian Government to secure further doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
ATAGI recommends a 3rd dose of COVID-19 vaccine as part of the primary course in individuals who are severely immunocompromised. The 3rd dose is intended to maximise the level of immune response to as close as possible to the general population. The recommended interval for the 3rd dose is 2 to 6 months after the 2nd dose of vaccine.
This recommendation applies to all individuals aged ≥12 years with certain conditions or on therapies leading to severe immunocompromise.
For further information on this recommendation and how it applies, please visit the Australian Government website: ‘ATAGI statement on the use of a 3rd primary dose of COVID-19 vaccine in individuals who are severely immunocompromised’.
NIHRACS will provide further communication when additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been secured. If this recommendation applies to you, please contact 22091 for the GP clinic to arrange an appointment.
